About the Book

In Louisiana, the Asteraceae is one of the most abundant herbaceous families in the flora. It is also the largest family represented by more than 340 species distributed among 101 genera. These 101 genera belong to 10 tribes in the Asteroideae (excluding the Arctotideae, Calenduleae, and Liabeae), and the only tribe in the Cichorioideae. Delineation of genera of Louisiana Asteraceae, according to the tribes is given.
Some locally used common names are listed. Basionyms are provided for all names of species, subspecies, and varieties involving new combinations and/or status. Citations of synonyms are restricted to those taxa, whose correct names differ from those used in recent manuals of the eastern United States and Texas.
New taxonomic names include:—Echinacea pallida var.sanguinea stat. nov.—Heliopsis helianthoides var. graciliscomb. nov.—Heterotheca graminifolia var. tenuifolia comb. nov.—Heterotheca subaxillaris var. latifolia comb. & stat. nov.—Hymenopappus scabiosaeus var. artemisiifolius stat. nov.—Marshallia tenuifolia var. graminifolia stat. nov.
